Dr Ruth Jeanes, Senior Research Associate at the Institute of Youth Sport, Loughborough University
Ruth has worked on a wide range of evaluations examining the impact of youth sport initiatives in the UK and internationally. Her PhD research examined girls' involvement in sport and ways to engage non-participants in activity. Since 2006 Ruth has been examining the value of sport in international development work with young people. She has undertaken research in Zambia on sport as an education tool, focusing on girls' involvement in sport and empowerment programmes. In 2008 she was a member of the research team commissioned by UK Sport to obtain evidence of young people's response to sport as a development tool in Brazil, India and Zambia. She is currently a member of the Loughborough evaluation team for the International Inspiration programme, an initiative jointly funded by UNICEF, UK Sport and the British Council to promote sport for development purposes in Azerbaijan, Brazil, India, Palau and Zambia (2007-ongoing).
